Credit & Debit Card Transaction Fees

When your clients pay an InvoiceToo invoice by credit or debit card, payment processing is handled by Stripe. Stripe charges processing fees on each successful card payment. InvoiceToo does not add a separate card-processing surcharge on top of Stripe’s standard rates unless your account agreement states otherwise.

Who pays the fee?

Stripe’s processing fee is deducted from the payment before funds are deposited to your connected Stripe account (or your payout schedule). Your customer pays the invoice amount you set; the fee is taken from that payment on the merchant side.

Standard US online card rates (Stripe)

These are Stripe’s published Standard pricing for US businesses accepting online card payments. Your Stripe account may have custom or negotiated pricing.

Payment type Stripe fee (US)
Domestic credit & debit cards (online) 2.9% + 30¢ per successful transaction
Manually entered card (keyed-in) 2.9% + 30¢ + 0.5%
International cards 2.9% + 30¢ + 1.5%
Currency conversion (when required) Additional + 1%

Example

For a $100.00 domestic online card payment at standard US rates:

  • Stripe processing fee: $2.90 + $0.30 = $3.20
  • Approximate net to your Stripe balance: $96.80 (before any other Stripe products, refunds, or disputes)

Other payment methods

ACH Direct Debit, digital wallets, buy-now-pay-later, and in-person readers have different Stripe pricing. See Stripe’s pricing page for full details.

Disputes (chargebacks)

If a cardholder disputes a charge, Stripe may charge a dispute fee (for example $15.00 per dispute received under US Standard pricing). Outcomes and refunds of dispute fees depend on the dispute result. See Stripe disputes documentation.

Where to see fees in practice

  • Your Stripe Dashboard shows the fee and net amount for each payment.
  • InvoiceToo payment receipts and reporting reflect the amount your customer paid; net settlement follows your Stripe payout settings.
